Your manuscript never reaches an external AI provider

Pre-publication review for manuscripts that matter

Offline-first by default. Manuscripter runs 16 analysis jobs — entities, claims, risk, timeline, grammar, pacing, and more — without any external AI call. External AI overlays are available on Pro, but only when you explicitly enable them.

External AI overlays only when explicitly enabled. Create a free account to analyse your own manuscript.

How it works

Analysis jobs are queued and processed asynchronously. A 120,000-word manuscript typically completes the full offline suite in a few minutes.

  1. 01

    Upload

Upload a DOCX or plain-text file. Manuscripter stores it within your own infrastructure — no third-party cloud.

  2. 02

    Run the audit

16 analysis jobs queue and execute locally: entities, claims, risk, timeline, grammar, pacing, and more.

  3. 03

    Review findings

Browse results in the workspace: claims queue, timeline view, writing assessment, and stakeholder list.

  4. 04

    Export

Download structured reports — Claims CSV on the free tier; XLSX, Attorney Packet PDF, and Stakeholder PDF on higher tiers.

Privacy controls (offline-first)

Your manuscript stays yours

Your manuscript is never sent to external AI providers unless you opt in. The 16 offline analysis jobs run entirely on your own server. Pro LLM overlays — claims re-analysis, manuscript reasoning, hotspot assessment — are opt-in and can be disabled individually or blocked globally by Zero Exposure mode.

Who the controls are for

Researchers operating under IRB data-handling rules. Journalists protecting sources. Legal teams reviewing manuscripts under NDA. Any environment where sending manuscript text to a third-party AI provider is a compliance or confidentiality concern.

Note: Manuscripter runs on a live server with a database and job queue — it is not an air-gap system. What the privacy controls enforce is that no manuscript text is transmitted to any external AI service without your explicit permission.

LLM-powered analysis

Pro plan includes LLM-powered features that send selected manuscript segments to an AI provider. Zero Exposure mode disables these jobs and can be enforced at the infrastructure level.

Frequently asked questions

Do you send my manuscript to AI providers?

No — not unless you explicitly enable it. By default, Manuscripter runs entirely on your own server using offline analysis jobs. No manuscript text is transmitted to any external AI provider. Pro users can opt in to LLM-powered overlays (claims re-analysis, manuscript reasoning, hotspot assessment); these can be disabled individually or blocked globally with Zero Exposure mode.

Is my manuscript stored on Manuscripter servers?

Your manuscript is stored within your own infrastructure — the server you deploy Manuscripter on. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party cloud storage provider unless you configure one yourself.

What does Zero Exposure mode actually do?

Zero Exposure mode blocks all outbound connections from Manuscripter to external AI providers — both at the application layer (the server raises a 503 before any network call is made) and optionally at the network layer via an iptables denylist. When enabled, the 16 offline analysis jobs continue to function normally; the 4 LLM-powered Pro features are disabled.

What is the difference between the Audit Suite and the Writing Suite?

The Audit Suite focuses on factual and legal risk: entities, claims, risk scoring, timeline extraction, contradiction detection, and living person flags. The Writing Suite focuses on craft and structure: grammar, repetition, pacing, editorial checks, date references, and writing assessment across chapters. Both suites run offline and are included on every tier.

Can I try Manuscripter without creating an account?

Yes. The demo lets you enter the workspace immediately as a free, creator, or pro user without registration. The demo loads a sample manuscript — to analyze your own manuscript, you will need to create a free account.

What is included in the free tier?

The free tier includes the full Audit Suite (7 jobs) and Writing Suite (8 jobs) for up to 3 manuscripts. Exports are limited to Claims CSV. You can run up to 10 analysis jobs per day.

What is the Attorney Packet PDF?

The Attorney Packet PDF is a Pro-tier export that compiles living person flags, risk scores, claims evidence, and timeline data into a structured packet for attorney review. It is not legal advice. It is designed for workflows where a legal reader needs to assess the manuscript data without accessing the workspace directly.

How long does analysis take?

Analysis jobs are queued and processed asynchronously. The full offline suite on a 120,000-word manuscript typically completes within a few minutes on standard server hardware. LLM-powered jobs (Pro only) depend on API response times from the configured provider.

What file formats does Manuscripter accept?

Manuscripter accepts DOCX and plain-text files. Support for additional formats is on the roadmap.

Does Manuscripter work in restricted network environments?

Yes. The 16 offline analysis jobs have no external network dependencies. Zero Exposure mode can be enforced at the infrastructure level, making Manuscripter suitable for deployment in environments with strict egress controls, including IRB-regulated research systems and legal team networks with NDA requirements.

What are the LLM-powered features in the Pro tier?

Pro includes AI Claims Analysis (a second-pass LLM review of flagged claims), Manuscript Reasoning (theme and structural analysis using chapter embeddings), and Assessment Hotspot analysis. These jobs send selected manuscript segments to an external AI provider and require network access. They can be individually disabled or blocked globally by Zero Exposure mode.

Is there a word or page limit on manuscripts?

There is no hard limit enforced by the software. Practical limits depend on your server configuration. Very large manuscripts (400,000+ words) may require extended processing time or additional server resources.

Can I use Manuscripter for a team or organisation?

Multi-seat workflows are supported: multiple reviewers can comment and collaborate on a manuscript, and the review queue tracks contributor activity. For organisations requiring volume limits above the Pro tier, contact us about institutional pricing.
